CYO Program

What is the St John's CYO program?

CYO sports is a non-denominational component of St John Nepomucene’s comprehensive youth program which enables the partnership of parents, coaches, priest and adult leaders to manage and support a sports program that allows our youth to grow physically and emotionally within the community. St. John's CYO youth sports programs have been serving the community for over 20 years. Although we want the children to develop their skills in whatever program they choose, the most important aspect of our program is for all participants to have FUN!

This program:
  • Employs healthy and enjoyable competition to promote the sharing of good social values among athletes, parents, coaches and spectators.
  • Assists community leadership in developing the emotional, social and physical needs of young people.
  •  Encourages young people to appreciate the gifts that they possess, and challenges them to share these gifts with their community.
  • Encourages youth to become responsible members of the community.
  • A number of programs are offered:
      • Intramural Soccer Program from Kindergarten through High School (Boys and Girls)
      • Intramural Basketball Program starting with the 3rd Grade (Boys and Girls)
      • Travel Basketball Program for both Boys and Girls
      • Girl's Track program ("Golden Girls"), from 1st through 8th Grade

I ordered a uniform (parts) how do I receive it?

Uniform orders are generally distributed by the coaches at their practice prior to the season's start. If an order or registration is late then the order can be picked up at the 1st scheduled game.

What happens if the games are cancelled?

When are practices held and can I request a certain day of the week for practice?

As the coaches are volunteers themselves, with their own schedules, they determine practice dates. These are not tracked by league administration. Parents are encouraged to work with other team member parents to work through transportation issues. Practices are held at the same school location and are at the discretion of the coach. Typically they are held once a week running 45 minutes to 1 hour. Unfortunately, we can’t accommodate requests for specific days of the week for practice.

Can I request a particular team or another player's team?

Requests can be submitted for very special circumstances. For example, children with disabilities may require a specialized placement. Understand, we can only make teams equitable when a limited number of requests are accomodated.

Why must I volunteer / actively participate?

As a 100% volunteer organization we need the help of parents in order for our program to exist. Every family will be required to sign up for a task. If you can do more - GREAT! Our volunteer committee will assign you during the season.

Who can I can contact for additional questions?

For additional information send an email to: stjohnscyosoccer@hotmail.com.

No, we are not registering any 2nd grade players. They can not play against another player two grades up. It would not be fair to either player.

What if my son or daughter has religion, can they still play?

Yes, they can come late or miss that night's practice or game. We have limited gym time and we are unable to alternate gym time.

Can we put our child with their friends?

In the 3/4 grade level we try to keep individual elementary schools together. If you have a certain request please let us know at registration table. At the 5/6 grade level individuals are picked by coaches after the evaluation night. Brothers and sisters are kept together.

When will we get the schedule for the travel program?

You will get the schedule as soon as we receive them. CYO Nassau and Suffolk decides the schedule and hands it out to coordinators, who then distributes them to the coaches.
