CYO Program

What is the St John's CYO program?

CYO sports is a non-denominational component of St John Nepomucene’s comprehensive youth program which enables the partnership of parents, coaches, priest and adult leaders to manage and support a sports program that allows our youth to grow physically and emotionally within the community. St. John's CYO youth sports programs have been serving the community for over 20 years. Although we want the children to develop their skills in whatever program they choose, the most important aspect of our program is for all participants to have FUN!

This program:
  • Employs healthy and enjoyable competition to promote the sharing of good social values among athletes, parents, coaches and spectators.
  • Assists community leadership in developing the emotional, social and physical needs of young people.
  •  Encourages young people to appreciate the gifts that they possess, and challenges them to share these gifts with their community.
  • Encourages youth to become responsible members of the community.
  • A number of programs are offered:
      • Intramural Basketball Program starting with the 3rd Grade (Boys and Girls)
      • Travel Basketball Program for both Boys and Girls

No, we are not registering any 2nd grade players. They can not play against another player two grades up. It would not be fair to either player.

What if my son or daughter has religion, can they still play?

Yes, they can come late or miss that night's practice or game. We have limited gym time and we are unable to alternate gym time.

Can we put our child with their friends?

In the 3/4 grade level we try to keep individual elementary schools together. If you have a certain request please let us know at registration table. At the 5/6 grade level individuals are picked by coaches after the evaluation night. Brothers and sisters are kept together.

Is the traveling far for Travel program?

The traveling is in Suffolk and Nassau county only. The hours of the game are usually after 6pm when traffic is lighter.

When will we get the schedule for the travel program?

You will get the schedule as soon as we receive them. CYO Nassau and Suffolk decides the schedule and hands it out to coordinators, who then distributes them to the coaches.
